Scope:
- Full development and design
Description:
Our Stonebarrow Farm project comprises a 49.9MW battery energy storage scheme (BESS) proposed on land east of Stonebarrow Lane, Hawkchurch, within the East Devon District Council area.
The proposed development area measures approximately 1.5 acres.
Temporary planning permission would be sought for a 20-year operational period. The infrastructure would be decommissioned and the land fully restored after the operational period.
The proposals include additional landscape and ecological enhancements and secure a minimum 10% biodiversity net gain.
Why this site?
The site is outside of environmentally sensitive areas and is not subject to any statutory landscape, ecological, or heritage designations.
The site benefits from natural screening provided by the local topography and existing vegetation.
There are no residential properties nearby that would be subject to adverse amenity impacts, including noise.
A safe and suitable access can be provided throughout all stages of the development.
A viable Grid Connection Offer has been accepted from the Distribution Network Operator, Western Power Distribution (WPD) to connect into the Axminster substation, which is approximately 500m west of the site.
Current Status
The project is at the design stage of the development process which means there is still an opportunity to influence the scheme before a planning application is submitted. Your feedback is important to us and we welcome any suggestions on how the proposals could be improved.
Indicative plans
The plans shown below are indicative only and are subject to change in response to community feedback and the recommendations of our team of professional consultants as they undertake a full suite of planning and environmental assessments.

Public Consultation
We hosted a public consultation event on Wednesday 29th November at Hawkchurch Village Hall. This provided an opportunity for people to view our plans and discuss the proposals with the development team. If you were unable to attend the event, the exhibition materials can be downloaded below.
