Ethical Power acquires GTDS

[Bristol, 19th April 2024] Ethical Power Group Ltd exchanges contract for the acquisition of 100% of shares of Gunning Transmission and Distribution Services Limited (GTDS), specialist High Voltage (HV) installation and commissioning provider. In this strategic acquisition, Ethical Power Group expands its capabilities in the UK energy sector. Following the acquisition, Gordon Gunning will be stepping down from his role of Managing Director of GTDS.

GTDS was established in July 2004 to provide full turnkey installation and commissioning services at all voltage levels between 0.4kV, 6.6kV and 400kV. Specialising within the transmission sector, they have an impressive track record and possess a stellar reputation in the industry.

Ethical Power is the industry leader in the energy sector, specialising in solar PV projects and battery energy storage systems. In 2023, it acquired full shares and integrated its subsidiary ICP (independent connections provider) into the Group. The acquisition of GTDS follows several years of close collaboration between the companies and will enable further expansion of services and strengthens Ethical Power’s position as a comprehensive solutions provider in the energy market.

Tom Kneen, CEO of Ethical Power, says: “This is a monumental step for both parties. We welcome the GTDS team into the Ethical Power Group and look forward to our continued collaboration, delivering highest quality solutions to the UK energy infrastructure.”

Spencer Jansen, Chief Technology Officer at Ethical Power, comments: “We are pleased to complete this acquisition and introduce a key industry player such as GTDS to the Ethical Power group of companies. Over the years, we’ve developed a close partnership with GTDS and there’s an obvious alignment of aspirations, deliverables and values between us. I anticipate a smooth integration of GTDS into the Group and I look forward to our continued collaboration.”

While reporting to Ethical Power Group Board, GTDS will continue to trade under its current name and operate independently as a business, in line with the regulatory requirements for extreme high voltage providers. Mark Winkles has been appointed as the new Managing Director for the business. He says: “We are delighted to become the latest member of the Ethical Power Group and are excited by the opportunities that our combined skills will certainly unlock. I am in no doubt that the future for GTDS and the wider Ethical Power Group is very bright indeed.”

The transaction is anticipated to complete in the upcoming days.

With the combined expertise and resources of Ethical Power Group and GTDS, the companies are well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the energy sector and contribute to the advancement of renewable energy infrastructure.
