Bulkworthy and Dalby construction complete

In December we completed the construction of two solar parks for Ecotricity. Bulkworthy solar park in Devon and Dalby in Leicestershire were energised on the 21st December – the day of winter solstice – the shortest day of the year.

Ethical Power was the EPC contractor for the construction of solar parks. Both of them were developed alongside existing wind parks – 4 wind turbines adjacent to the Bulkworthy solar park and nine windmills next to the Dalby solar park.

The two projects will generate enough electricity to power 15,500 homes daily. The sites are utilising bi-facial solar panels meaning they capture the light that hits the front of the panel as well as the reflective light hitting the back of it making it more cost-effective. This type of panels is so sensitive that it will allow the sites to generate even during clear nights capturing moonlight and converting it into green energy, too.

Hedgerows and grassland will be planted at both sites to support the local ecosystem and boost biodiversity post-construction. This land had been used for farming for years. The specific seed mix which will be sown between the panels was chosen based on the parameters of the soil and will ensure that the nutritional value of is restored.
